The €1,500 Nappy Change

To use reusable nappies full time - you will need about 15-20 nappies. For nighttime use 3-4 dedicated night time nappies. Plus 20-30 reusable wipes, 1-2 wet nappy storage bags.
 

Yes!! Every little helps. You can build a reusable routine that suits your family. 1-2 days a week of reusable nappies requires only 5 nappies, you can use them througout the day, wash them, dry them and then reuse them another day. You can also choose reusable only for nighttime or for swimming.  

Reusable nappies are size adjustable using buttons on the front - you can use the snap buttons to make the nappy smaller or bigger as your child grows. Reusable nappies are sold as "One Size or Birth to Potty" these typicalluy fit from 3 months to 3 years of age or 10lbs - 38lbs. They are an excellent investment as they grow with your child. You can also find Newborn reusables to fit the first 3 months of life from 5-15lbs. 

You can wash nappies in your regular washing machine at home. After you change the nappy, you remove any soiling with a nappy liner to the bin or the tip it directly into the toilet.  You then store the nappy inside a wet bag in your laundry area. When your wet bag is full, put all your nappies into the washing machine: 
1. Rinse Wash First - short cool cycle with nappies only. 
2. Long Wash second - cotton cycle on 40 or 60, you can add other laundry to this cycle. 
3. Air dry or low heat tumble dry. 

Yes ! Pack your babys bag with 3-4 ready to go nappies, some wipes and an empty wet bag. When you collection your baby at the end of the dsy, you'll also be collecting a wet bag with used nappies to bring home and wash. Give your childminder a demo on how to fit the nappies, sometimes a printed page with a image of the correct can help. 

Poo is removed the toilet first. Nappy liners, which go inside the nappy and catch poo,  make this process much easier, you can remove the poo easily. Your hands stay clean!
